Reason or Mysticism

A talk by Nigel Howitt - Stockholm 18 October 12:00–15:00

Ideas are powerful, they influence our beliefs and actions in the moment, and over a lifetime.  Imagine a life lived on the belief that success and happiness are possible, versus the belief they are not. We are hugely influenced by the ideas we believe. And, just as the thoughts and behaviour of one man can be influenced—what he values and what he doesn’t, what he believes in and what he doesn’t—so you can influence a group of men, or a nation, or a civilisation! This is the power of ideas, and why they are the weapon of choice for those who seek to control the minds of populations, to manipulate political outcomes, and steer us towards the New World Order.

You probably already know that we should question ideas about pandemics, contagion, or the climate emergency, but there’s another category of ideas, one that usually flies under the radar of our suspicion. These ideas are philosophical, fundamental, and the most powerful in the subtle influence they bring to bear.

As a philosophical truth seeker, I have identified the key ideas that will lead the western world either to truth, freedom and human flourishment, or to being deceived and manipulated into the tyranny of a global collectivist state. One of the central issues is that of our means to discern truth and acquire knowledge. On this issue, it all boils down to either reason or mysticism. This means that in our quest for truth, either we consistently use the method of logic and reasoned argument, or we simply have faith; either we scrupulously adhere to valid reasoning so as to arrive at a level of certainty, or we dispense with reasoning and blindly accept ideas without rational warrant. Only one of these serves us, the other leads to our enslavement.

To hold reason as one’s guiding principle is not to reject the mysterious. It does not mean that one is emotionless and cold. It doesn’t remove the awe of beauty, the depth of love, or the sometimes breath-taking wonder of life. What is does do, is make the world intelligible, knowable, and understandable. Come and Join me for this controversial, and yet ultimately enlightening presentation, and deepen your understanding of one of the key fundamental ideas that shapes your world, and by extension the political reality of the future of humanity.
